Migrate the database from SQL 2005 to 2008R2

Hi,
I am pretty new to Symantec backup EXEC 2014.
I have a SQL Server 2005 instance on my PROD server. I have been given a task to migrate databases from that instance to a different box (SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows 2008 R2). The current instance has over 8 database which backs up every night.
is there something called .BAK file that it creates while backing up the database? i am tyring to find one but wasnt able to. i was told that it doenst create the .BAK file using Symantec tool.
Now where do i go to find the file thats been backed up and restore it onto the new SQL Server 2008 R2 instance?
What is the best approach to migrate all databases in single shot from SQL server 2005 to 2008R2
SQL1 is the SQL server 2005 Service pack 2
SQL 2 is the SQL server 2008R2 service pack 1.
I would apprecaiate if you could advice, me how to do upgrade or migration using Symantec backup EXEC 2014.

I need a solution
HI,
I'm trying to find what could be triggering the above error in Backup Exec 2010.
It happens when we backup a local server and to a USB removal Hard drive.
Backup2Disk has been set to split the backup files in to 50GB due to performance issue, error seems to happan after the first 50-70GB error seems to happen arround these sizes of the backup.

Netbackup SQL servers - QOS?
I need a solution
We currently are backing up our sql servers using Netbackup, however netbackup is utilizing a ton of bandwidth to perform the backups. We have a project in place to rectify this at the server level, however in the interim, is there any way to limit the amount of bandwidth utilized by Netbackup when connecting to SQL Server?
I've read some tech notes on using a LIMIT_BANDWIDTH setting, however it stated it wouldn't apply for SQL backups. Is there any setting, whether in the backup batch file, client, etc. which would throttle the bandwidth utilized during backups of SQL server?

Backup Exec 2012 Backups stuck on running randomly
I need a solution
Hi,
We have a Server 2008 R2 server that is used for backups. We use Backup Exec 2012 and backup various servers. It is patched to the latest version.
Now and again some jobs will be stuck on running at 0MB byte rate. The way I get around this is to reboot the server and the jobs then run ok.
Does anybody have any ideas to resolve the problem?

Set Chrome as default browser for links in job logs
I need a solution
I've noticed an odd behavior in Backup Exec that's been around for quite awhile. I seem to remeber this as an issue with BE2010 and 2012.
I have Chrome installed on my Backup Exec server, and it's set as the default browser... however, when I click on a link to a tech note link inside the job log it opens up in Internet Explorer.
This is really more of an annoyance rather than a real issue, but I'd like to find a way to fix it.

Is there a way to import images on an MSDP to MSDP in another new netbackup domain ?
I am decomissioning my old environment. Everything is on MSDP. I have a new environment to which I need to copy these images over.

Client-side dedupe behaviour during first backup
I need a solution
I have looked around, but still can't seem to find a definitive answer for my question. What I am trying to figure out is the behaviour of a client-side dedupe operation during the initial backup without any seeding. If the selection to backup consists of 1,024 identical 1MB files (1GB data total), does the intial backup still send all 1,024 of those to the central MSDP storage? Or does the plugin recognize that there are identical fingerprints within the dataset to be backed up (even without a fingerprint cache to compare to)? Thanks for any help, this is more for knowledge than practical purposes since I am using the seeding method anyway.

BE3600 Appliance clean upgrade to R3
I need a solution
Does anyone know or have suggestions on the best method to upgrade the BE3600 appliance to R3, with the catch that I want to completely wipe all data on it? Is there a way to clean install R3 from scratch, or should I just wipe the dedupe storage pool and upgrade like normal.
Basically, the appliance is in a horrible state, and I want to avoid upgrading it and it having the same backup issues that we are currently seeing with it.
(not to mention, with over 40TB of deduped data, it can take weeks to delete backup sets sometimes, other times the only way to get it backing up again was to reboot it, etc).
I just want to make sure that I am starting R3 with a clean slate and a pristine image. Yes, I know that R4 is coming out in a week or two, but at this point it is not backing up at all, and we need it done immediatly (can't wait until August 3rd)....
Now if there is an engineer on here that would want to provideme with the R4 ISO, and help me with a clean install this weekend... I'd be ok with that :)

SLP duplication jobs cancelled
I need a solution
Hi,
Issue: 1) SLP duplication jobs cancelled. (2) How to assign Same media server another pure disk.
Currently our SLP (Duplication) jobs schedule Saturday Night to Monday Morning, but during this period SLP replication not completed.
So I have tried to change the SLP schedule every day night (8:00PM to 4:00AM) (Asume that running SLP jobs will suspend and same will continue after that).
After changes pending/running SLP jobs are cancelled not suspended.
Our Setup:
All is Pure disk storage.
We are not using any Tape drive.
Offsite also storage disk.
Network bandwidth is low, so try to schedue in every night.
Windows 2008 R2 (Master server)
Windows 2008 (Media Server)
One Media server 15TB space allocated (Pure disk) now 5TB another disk partition is free (not in used)
As per symantec document:
NetBackup 7.6 Administrator's Guide I found the reason why the SLP cancels instead of suspend the image when the backup window closes.
As we are not using storage units of type “AdvancedDisk” or “Media Manager”, but “PureDisk”, the SLP cannot suspend the image and will proceed with one of the options we can select in “window closure preference”:
Please suggest...
1) How configure the replication SLP for every night.
2) How allocate another remaining disk (5TB) via Pure disk (It's not allowed).

Improving OpsCenter Master reconnection ?
I need a solution
Looking for ways to improve OpsCenter reconnection to Master servers, it often takes long from a Master Server is pingable from the OpsCenter server to the Master has status Connected in OpsCenter.
Have increased the database cache and number of CPUs, the next thing will be increasing the OpsCenter Server Service heap.
Have looked at the OpsCenter Performance tuning guide, but thinking there might also be some OS settings there could improve the reconnection.

BackupExec intermittently fails to set or clear backup mode of EV indices
I need a solution
Backup of EV 10.0.4 (using BackupExec 2012 SP4) fails intermittently while attempting to set or clear backup mode on EV indices. Event ID 41397 ("Some index volumes may not have the correct backup mode set. This can result in inconsistent backups.") is logged on EV server & backup mode can thereafter be set / cleared manually on EV server with no errors. Setting or clearing Backup Mode is always succesful on EV server using both admin console & powershell. But the problem keeps reappearing randomly when the BackupExec job is executing. BackupExec jobs do not fail consistently but 50-60% of the time, always with the same error ("cannot set or clear backup mode"). Workaround described in TECH209776 has already been attempted with no result.
Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance

Hallo, aufgrund Performanceproblemen konnte die BE nicht innerhalb 60 Tagen zufriedenstellend getestet werden.
Gibt es die Möglichkeit , den Testzeitraum nochmal zu verlängern ?
Kunde kauft nicht, wenn die Sicherung nicht stabil über 2 Wochen läuft :(

Netbackup client for RHEL on IBM Power PC.
I need a solution
Hi All,
Customer has a critical application configured on IBM P Series Platform. Support matrix does not support this platform i.e. Linux on IBM Power PC.
None of the NetBackup version even to the latest one are getting installed giving error incorrect platform.

SDR-Backup from a copy of a backup set
I need a solution
Hi everybody,
I've just a problem restoring a Windows 2008 SBS with BE2012.This server is on another location.
I made a complete backup to an network drive. I copied all backup sets from this fullbackup with duplication function in BE to a USB-drive.
In my office I want to recover this server without installing Windows and BE.
I'm using SDR, locally connected storage, giving the programm the correct .DR File, choosing the last backup and the correct folder with the copy of this backup set.
Error message is:
The media for some of the backup sets could not be found in the selected storage device. Add another disk storage device containing the media required to restore the backup sets.
Is anybody able to tell me, how to work with copy of backup sets, if the Mediaserver isn't available or how to copy backups right, to test complete backups using SDR.

Hi all,
I want to know if it possible to run netbackup command from 5220 in master/media mode ?
When I'm trying via SSH, support, maintenance elevate, i've got this advertise :
"Permission Denied. Access to root account requires overriding the Symantec Intrusion Security Policy.
Please refer to the appliance security guide for overriding instructions."
So i've read the securiry guide but, there is another option to bypass automatically the Symantec Intrusion Security Policy ? If not, i will reconsider to deploy my 5220 as master/media...
