Please excuse me but I am not too clued up on this system as I have not long started with the company.

Our system is backed up to seperate portable hard drives (F drive) and we are now having to restore back to 29th June 2015 due to an issue that has occurred within our accounting system.

We have located some information online that guides us through the process but it does not seem to be working!  We have selected the back up that needs restoring and catalogued this. We then went onto the restore tab and selected 'run now'. However, when checking the system, it hasnt restored.

My guess is that when we are selecting 'run now' we may only be running the 'catalogue' and not actually the restore.

Can anyone supply any detailed instructions on how to do this restore please?

I'm trying to upgrade the current version of Backup Exec 2010 R3 V13 with SP4 however something is not going as expected.

There are a couple of topics on this issue that claim by simply changing the permission in the register will solve this - however this is NOT the case.

Registry permission have been set for:

HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\13.0\Install
HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\13.0

System, administrator, administrators and I've even added the domain admins, all have full control
After this I've added the Everyone group which did not help.
I have removed the Major Version DWord and recreated it which did not help.

I cannot ignore this action otherwise the setup will roll back.
I tried to install the service pack 'run as administrator' 

This is very very frustrating, how is it possible that there is no clear solution to this.

Do I need to copy out the deduplication data from the appliance before the upgrade or only the data and catalogs folders?

So I got myself in a tangle with our backup media, and I want to get everything straightened out.

I have a stack of old LTO5 tapes sitting next to me, and I want to use these in my new 2014 environment for which the tape drive is arriving soon. These old tapes are for the old 2010 environment and they are already labelled, but not contiguously which is making matters confusing. I want nice blocks of tapes for our weeklies and daily backups.

How should I best rename the tapes in the new environment? Also can the new labels be placed over the old ones or should I take the labels off first?

AIX Client on which oracle 10.2.0.5.0 is running.

While running backup we are getting error status 6.

I lost a server running Backup exec 2010 I still have all the backup files on a external storage, but I need to know how to restore those files if I now using Backup Exec 15? any ideas? 

I have a question regarding data flow in the following environment:

3 sites, each a seperate NBU domain with a 5230 appliance and multiple windows servers (2K8R2 & 2K12R2)

I use AIR to replicate backups between the sites

1 scenario is as follows:

Step 1  Exchange DAG backed up to 5230 in site A

Step 2  Backup replicated to 5230 in site B

Step 3  Replicated copy imported into 5230 in site B

Each of the above steps runs successfully and the backup is available for restore in site A and site B as expected.

Here is the question:

Whilst step 3 (Import) is taking place on the 5230 in site B I am seeing a lot of network traffic between the 5230 in site B and the exchange server (where the backup originated) in site A !!  Surely there should be NO communication between the appliance in site B and 'anything' in order to perform an import of a replicated backup image ?  If anything traffic between the appliances, but not back to the originating client ?

What am I missing here ?

I'm replicating backup images from source domain to destination domain. I would like to initiate restore from destination domain, as soon as replication/import gets completed on destination to a client in destination domain. Do we have a flag or alarm kind of events in NetBackup that we can use as a trigger to call a script (let say restore script) ?

I know we can define a cron job that periodically checks the status of imported images and performs a restore. But my requirement is to have event based restore.

I ejected a series of tapes using the "eject" feature on the NetBackup Administration Console.  I followed the dialog and removed the tapes as needed from the robot.  Now when I go back in to the Administration Console the tapes still show as being in their original volume pool rather than being ejected.  If I select one of the tapes and attempt to "Change" it and select a different volume pool I am greeted with the message "cannot change volume pool for assigned volume (91)" 

This is on a Netbackup 5230 Appliance with a Master and Media server.  

Have I missed a step in the ejection process?

Reviewing the NBU 7.7 - 7.7.x Database and Application Agent Compatibility List, I noticed something weird about the SQL Server 2014 support:

When running SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the SCL states that only Windows DataCenter edition is suppoted - Standard and Enterprise Editions are not.

Anyone knows if this is a error/typo on the SCL, or if there's a fair explanation for that limitation?

Btw I checked the MS site and SQL 2014 supports both Windows 2008 Standard and Enterprise Editions.

Tried installing backupexec 2015 & 2014 - both fails with the same error…

Hi All,

Then replication jobs between prod site and the DR site is failed with error 174 .I checked the configuration all seems to be fine .

AT production site the replication jobs are created but at DR  , no import jobs are refelecting .

Previously it was working but since last week the Netbackup env. has this issue.

At Prod :

Master server : V 7.6.0.4 (Linux)

Media server : 2 x Netbackup Appliance  5230 (2.6.0.4)

At DR :

Master server : V 7.6.0.4 (Linux)

I have question, we have another backup job completed with status 1 , Error message:

I found the suggestion in Symantec support website https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH143... , it says : This issue is rooted in how the non NTFS file system returns stream data when responding to the backup API NetBackup uses by default (NTIO).

To disable NTIO (which is enabled by default), a registry key and value must be created as follows:
1. Run regedit
2. Create the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\NTIO
3. Under this key, create a DWORD value named "UseNTIO"
4. Give this a value of "0". A value of 0 disables NTIO

NOTE: NetBackup 7.5 will create the UseNTIO registry key (set to '0') by default during installation on Windows, thereby disabling the use of NTIO by default.

But client server ( window 2012) is running on 7.5.0.6, should we disable NTIO ? Thank you.

I recently upgraded our media servers (running Windows 2008 R2 OS) from BE2012 to BE15.

When I look at the backup sets, I see a long list of expired backup sets where the "Storage" column is identified as "Unknown."  Looking at the Properties for any one of them, I see that the backup set is encrypted which tells me the backup set was written to tape (we only encrypt backup sets when running a duplicate-to-tape job.)

My question is:  These backup sets were written first to disk then duplicated, with encryption, to tape and are now expired, why are they not being deleted from the BE database?  I looked at the dates on the backup sets and they go as far back as November 2013.  We do an annual backup set D2D2T that we retain for 1-year.  Upon creating a new annual set, the previously year's set is replaced.   How do I get rid of them?

Having a heck of a time trying to figure this out. 14 of my 21 VMware policies are failing with a status code 200 for some reason. Credentials are good and we can do a test query with no issues.
