We have jobs running for many hours backing up many Mb of data. One is a large Exchange backup.
Can Ops Centre report on ACTIVE jobs?
Can we setup an hourly report (Automated) in Ops Centre that will show the progress of the job or stream per mail on an hourly basis?
What Data Collection needs to be in place, and at what intervals to achieve this?
Do we require OC Analytics?

I want to Restore SQL Server to different SQL Server, but always fail.
I am using Backup Exec 2010 to Backup SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2.
My Backup Exec software installed in Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.
I have some problems when i want to Restore Tape backup to Other SQL Server .
The error : The job failed with the following error: The directory is invalid.
When i see in SQL Server, the database name already create, but empty. No Table, views or anything.
I have follow the instruction from Symantec to Restore Database.
I think restore database could not be so difficult.
Is there anything certain condition to restore SQL Server to Different Server ?
For example Operating system that used for restore.

If change it to any one of different volume pools, it would not take effect, "offsite" pool would be still there, even after I clicked OK buttom. Is it the way supposed to be that I have to use "offsite" pool? It really bothers, hope someone here can help me out. thanks in advance!

I have just inherited a client (so please don't mock me for the setup).
He as an SBS 2008 Standard Server and then two more Severs running windows Server 2008R2 one of which has a full blown SQL running on it.
He already has Backup Exec on the SBS.
He wants to purchase SSR to take a full granular backup out to a NAS.
So to the question:
Can I get him to purchase SSR for SBS and rest easy ?
Or (and here are my concerns)..........
Will SSR not be happy sitting on the SBS with Backup Exec already in residence ?
and
Can SSR backup the other Servers using its in-built agents and more importantly can its in-built agent backup the SQL (as their SQL was purchased separately and not as part of SBS)

Still need the ability to backup Windows server 2012 that has been out for over 8 months, a new R2 version will be comming soon, so does anybody know, when or if Symantec are going to provide a non beta version of Backup exec that supports the backup of windows server 2012, I have it pencilled in for this month, but have seen or heard nothing so far.

Je suis sur BackupExec 2012, version 14 rev. 1798 64bit.
Le système est connecté à une bandothèque Dell PV-124T.
Lorsqu'on ajoute une bande dans la bandothèque ou qu'on en retire une ou autres, on lance un "Scan" sur les slots. Pas de problème, le contenu des slots se met à jour.
Mais ensuite, les changements de bande (nouvelle bande ou bande sortie) ne se répércutent pas sur les mediasets.... (scratch, etc...).
Y a-t-il une manipulation à faire pour forcer la mise à jour des mediasets ? (je sais que sur Backup Exec 2010, il fallait faire "F5" pour voir le contenu se mettre à jour, mais ça ne fonctionne pas sur 2012...).

Here is an interesting question / theory depending on your point of view.
Windows Server 2012 was Beta in May 2012, general relase was around sept oct, so 14 months after Beta we are still waiting for backup exec to support it.
I have this theory that if Symantec had never released the mistake that was / is Backup Exec 2012 we would already have a released product to support it. In that 2010 r4 or R3 SP3 would have been released long ago and been working. My theory is, the problem symantec have is that they couldn't have BE 2010 backup up something ie windows 2012 that backup exec 2012 could not support, otherwise even more users would have rolled back. The problem is that not only have they had to update BE 2012 to support server 2012, they have had to fix the product, so it is taking a ridiculous amout of time to get the necessary updates released.
So dear Symantec, whilst you are fixing Backup exec 2012, please release the update for 2010, so us frustrated end users can back our servers up !

so copy 1 success
copy 2 failed giving 96 error no media is available
when checked in thursday pool , giving Media status FROZEN
when cheked in tape logs giving LOADING FAILURE
so how to resolve it?

We have a new installation of BE2012 and have a new server and new tape library, the tape libary is a TS3200 IBM 4 Drive Fibre attached library, in BE 2012 2 of the drives are showing as online and 2 are showing as offline, looking into device manager it only shows two drives in there.
Below is a even that keeps occuring in the application event log for backup exec

In the tape library web interface page it is showing that all 4 drives are up and running, i have run a update xpress on the ibm server to ensure all device drivers are up and running, it shows the 2 FC HBA's up and running without issue

In one group we run out of scratch tapes.we insert the tapes for that group after that all tapes are moved into volumepool -->scratch pool.I need to all 18 scratch tapes should moved to volume groups --> 000_00001_TLd gropup. what is the procedure to move all the 18 tapes from scratch tapes to volume groups.

We have been using BE for a time now and we start using GRT for our Backups. It's an extremely useful feature, but it seems to be not working on SharePoint environments
We have VMware 5.1 and all other GRT's do work properly (Exchange, SQL, File server etc.) but I always get the same message on SharePoint vm's:
"Backup Exec failed to snap virtual machine '\(DC)mydomain(DC)\vm\Cluster Name\Machine-Name' and was unable to collect the necessary metadata to restore individual application items. You cannot perform GRT-enabled restores of application data from this backup."
I do know that this is a known issue with VMware 5.1 and Backup exec 2012, but when I was using VMware 5.0 I had the same issue.
Can someone help me?

Hello All,
I have spoken with Symantec over the phone but their solution seemed utterly impractical so I was wondering if anyone has the same problem.
We have a server which runs a weekly backup of around 500gb and an incremental daily backup of around 4gb, previously when we wanted to restore data from this server we would highlight it, go to the restore tab and then choose files/folders and then choose the date of the backup required and it would tell us what tape this backup is on and then away we go.
Now it seems to only be showing one backup range which is from the 29/06/13, I can see the completed previous backups from the job history tab and it shows them all being successful and what tape the backup is on.
Symantec say our catalog is too big and that the way to restore backups from before the 29/06/13 full backup is to catalog the last full backup before the date we needed and then restore the job from there, so in essence if I wanted a backup from the 3/06/13 (a Monday) I would have to find the last full backup tape in this case the 1/06/13 then catalog this (which takes several hours) and then put the Monday incremental tape in catalog that and then restore, so we are looking at a restore time of at least half a day which seems ridiculous.
Other servers we have just allow me to select any date from a previous backup and off it goes.
Can anyone help as to how to resolve this more effectively.
