I need a solution

Salve,

sono giorni ormai che ho un problema con Backup Exec. 2012 (Rel 14 - built 1798 64bit) su macchia W2008 R2

e che mi sta facendo impazzire!!!

Su alcuni backup (non tutti perchè altri sono ok) ho questo tipo di errore:

Processo completato: giovedì xx gennaio XXXX  a 14:01:18
Stato: Non riuscito
Errore finale: 0xe000fe30 - Si è verificato un errore di comunicazione.
Categoria errore finale: Errori di server
Per ulteriori informazioni su questo errore fare riferimento al collegamento V-79-57344-65072

Ho controllato tutto anche con riparazione del database. Le porte aperte sul server e sui client sono a posto,

patch verificate ecc. Cosa fare? Questo tipo di errore è emerso dopo alcuni aggiornamenti di

windows che mi hanno anche bloccato il database poi ripartito dopo il reboot ulteriore della macchina.

L'intervallo delle porte dinamiche TCP sono attivate (1025 ... 65535) , lato client sembra ok ....

Cosa posso fare? Soluzioni?

Performance issues on VMWare backups.

I need a solution

Hi guy, I recently started having some issues with vmware backups, but for just one site.

Usually I would have about 20mbps speeds, and then they drop to less than 2mbps for no reason I could find.

If I restart the master server (the same one asociated with the vmware host), problem solved.

I tried looking for some eeb file, but no luck on that.

I need to upgrade to 7.6.0.4, but I am going on vacation in a week, and I don´t want to leave a new system unchecked.

Current environment is:

Master server -  windows 2008 r2 - Netbackup 7.5.0.7 - hp library - data domain 670

Media server - windows 2003  - Netbackup 7.5.0.7 - hp library - data domain 670

ESX version is 5.1, need to upgrade to 7.6 to go to 5.5

all backups failing are vmware machines, going straight to cif on the dd unit.

Any help will be appreciated.

Random Job Failing - device error timed out

I need a solution

Hi,

Im trying to troubleshoot a random issue that is happening. The difficulty is that the issue is not consistent. 

We have 3 jobs setup to backup 3 server, and it will fail with the following error.  Now this can happen randomly with either Job1,Job2,Job3

Or Job1 will succed, Job2 will fail, Job3 will succed, or another night it will be Job1 Fail, Job2 Success,Job3 Success

Basiscally the jobs fail with the following error. 

Backup-"JOB NAME"An unknown error occurred on device "TAPE DEVICE".
V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

An unknown error occurred on device "TAPE DEVICE".
V-79-57344-34030 - An invalid command was sent to the storage device.

The storage device may no longer be accessible to the operating system. Review the event logs for more information.

Now this has been happending few days.  Some of the things I have tried so far are

1) Ran the HP LLT Tools - passed

2) Tried a new job to test, will fail randomly if either started manually or scheduled

3) The jobs that we already have defined, will randomly fail, either started manually or scheduled

4) Happens to different physical Tapes

5) When I try to go to the links for the V- errors the pages come up cannot find page

6) Windows Event Logs do not show anything in the time period of the jobs

Specs are as follow

Backup Exec 2014 Small Business Edition with Service Pack 2

Windows Server 2008 R2 with all updates

HP Proliant ML350 Gen 9 with HP H240 HBA card on a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO-4 Tape Drive with Vsphere ESXI 5.5 with update 2 and latest patches.

Now this was working prior to the hardware upgrade above this tape drive was running similar setup of

Backup Exec 2014 Small Business Edition with Service Pack 2

Windows Server 2008 R2 with all updates

HP ProLiant DL380 G6 with HP P212 HBA card on a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO-4 Tape Drive with Vsphere ESXI 5.5 with update 2 and latest patches.

Who puts numbers left justified??

My backup job completed with status 1 but it shows :

Netbackup 7.5.0.7 for WIndows 2012 x64

I need a solution

I have downloaded both the x86 & x64 to go from 7.5.0.x to 7.5.0.7.

I don't know what to download to be able to update our WIndows 2012 x64 servers. I know that when I have to install Netbackup on our WIndows 2012 server, I had to download a specific file for this.

Capacity-based licensed features shows 0 in Admin Console

I need a solution

Hello everyone,

I upgraded my 7.5 NetBackup domain to 7.6 and also replaced previous 7.5 capacity-based license keys to upgraded keys 7.6. According to my license certificates I should have 100 TB front end protection.

How is it possible that after replacing keys, the NetBackup License Keys windows shows me that Licensed Capacity is 0? I replaced keys on OpsCenter server as well and of course restared services on both OpsCenter and master server.

Older Veritas Tapes - Will BE 2014 Read Them?

I need a solution

I'm working on a project for a client who has a win 2003 server. For lots of really unbelievable reasons, my client needs to restore data from a tape, but the client only knows that the backup program used then was Veritas Backup Exec. 

My question - providing the tapes are still good, the hardware is still good, what are the chances that BE 2014 will be able to read the tapes?

Setting Backup Selections for Windows that does not backup sub folders

I need a solution

I'm at a quandary.  I'm trying to cleanly set up a Multi stream Backup Selection where I get sets of folders in each new stream so that the backups can complete successfully overnight.  My problem is that I have a few files on the "root" of the E drive that I want to grab with out creating a separate policy with exclusions to grab these few files.

NEW_STREAM

E:\33979
E:\Cell
E:\Claims

NEW_STREAM

E:\Media
E:\Production Backup

NEW_STREAM

*****   I can’t do E:\  or E:\*   as all I want is the few files on the "root" of E

I need a solution

Is there any documentation (preferably a single document) that describes Netbackup concepts and terminology, like there is for Veritas Cluster Server where the first chapter of the admin guide is “Clustering concepts and terminology”, so that when you read the rest of the admin guide it makes sense?

I am looking for something that covers things in reasonable detail like the VCS admin guide, which has half a page or more or each object, not a one-liner, which is mostly what I can find for Netbackup at the moment.

The sort of things I am looking for explanations for are:

  • NBU Master, Media, Client, EMM Server, Indexing Server
  • Polices, Storage Lifecycle Polices
  • Storage Unit, Storage Unit Groups,
  • Disk pools, Volume pools

So I have an end to end view of how NBU works and which parts are mandatory, best practices or optional.

The “Getting starting guides” covers the VERY basics in that NBU is a 3 tier system, but it shows a Master with a tape robot attached so does that mean it is also a Media server or is it only called a Media server if it has disk attached.  There is very little else in the Getting Starting Guide, and in the Install and Admin guide, its starts mentioning things before explaining what they are.

I am new to Netbackup and I am trying to installl Netbackup master server on a LINUX 32 bit OS.

LINUX 32 bit OS is running on  VM workstation.

I am trying to build a master server to learn and get use to Netbackup.

What version would be best to get started and where can I download the packages for LINUX 32 bit OS?

Any suggestion would be great?

Not able to change Time zone in Netbackup Java Console 7.1

Hi,

I have Netbackup java console 6.5, 7.0, 7.1 etc installed on my company laptop (Win 7) which i use to connect to the different servers in our environment.

In 6.5 java console, Under the menu "File - Adjust application time zone" I am able to see all the different time zones.

But for 7.x java consoles, i only get the "Indian Standard Time" option. No other time zone is available to select.

I think this is a java issue, and not NBU. Can anyone help?

This becomes a real problem for reporting and other stuff....

BE2014 V-Ray complains about DLO_BE ms sql database in BKUPEXEC

I need a solution

I have BE2104 V-Ray lisence.

BE2014 is installed in virtual server.... and yes, I know this is not recommeded by Symantec, but I anyway have this kind of setup.

I keep getting following error message when I do backup of server with MS SQL database:
"Backup- <server>.<domain>.local\BKUPEXEC
V-79-40960-37912 - Database BE_DLO is offline, loading, or in the standby state.  Only online databases can be backed up."

BE_DLO is located inside BKUPEXEC instance which is up and running.

I do not have DLO option installed on server anymore (= in Programs and features).
I have had DLO7.5 installed earlier, but it has been removed and is not there anymore.
I guess BE_DLO is there because I have earlier had BE2010 which has then been upgraded to BE2010R3 and finally to BE2014.

How can I get rid of this "BE_DLO" ?

How can I delete media/images ?

L.S.

We use Netbackup since 2005 and performed backups until 2009 with infinite retention.

In 2009 (when we started using LTO3-tapes) we implemented another retention scheme (with 3 months, 12 months and infinite retention) that ultimately results in only the first full backup of each year having infinite retention.

The period from 2005 until 2009 represents a substantial amount of LTO2-tapes (at our external storage location) as well as many entries in the Catalog database.

The data has been requested only once since that period,

therefor we want to free up physical space in the cabinets at the external storage location and decrease the size of the catalog database.

So it is agreed to keep only those sets of tapes representing the 1st full backup of 2005 up to and including 2009, and to do away with the other LTO2-tapes.

Having listed those tapes (to be done  away with),

I guess the next step would be to expire them in sequence with the command:

bpexpdate -m XXXXXX -d 0 –force

followed by

vmdelete -m XXXXXX

Is this sufficient to make the Catalog Database shrink, or does it need to be purged additionally somehow ?

If the mentioned steps are not correct, please say so !

RDM Backup

Hello Expert,

I read somewhere that in VM RDM backup is not supported in 7.6.0.1 version and we need to install separate nbu clinets. We have some VMs and these have some LUN mappings.and these VMs Vm level backup is happening perfectly fine. Didnot check the restoration.

So pls let me know if its recommened by Symantec.

I have increased the append period on a tape catridge when the OP has expired. Can we do it if the storage is still available ?

I see below screen on the storage backup sets. Can we restore data from the expired backup set. is it something to worry ?

VM Restore is failing with Status 67

We are in process to deploy NetBackup Replication Director in our clients production environment.

During the pilot run we were able to take VM backups using RD.

Now the issue we are facing during restoration is Restore is failing with status code 67.

Transfer of Ops Center Report formats

I need a solution

Building a new Netbackup Enterprise Server environment( on new Hardware) and want to copy the Ops Center report formats from the old Version 7.5.0.6 system to the new Version 7.6.0.4 system so we don't have to re-create them manually.

We are not doing a catalog restore nor do we want to copy the current Ops Center Data to the new servers as we are starting a fresh environment.

I had been told in the past that there is no way to copy the report formats from one box to another.

Is this still the case? Are there any supported or unsupported ways to do this?
