What is the "best practices" way to move existing backups to another basic disk pool on the same master server?
Background: I need to move catalog from one server to new hardware. There are 16 weeks of backups on local attached disks configured as a basic disk pool. I want to move those backups to a basic disk pool on the same server that has a different drive letter. That new disk pool's drive/storage is san-based so when we migrate the catalog, all I need to do is present the same SAN-based storage to the new server (keeping the same drive letter as on the old one) in order to preserrve the existing backups.
We can't start with a fresh install because we have a lot of long-term retention tapes offsite that we need to keep the existing catalog for and the old Master server hardware needs to be retired. Hence the catalog move.
Thoughts??
Thanks in advance!
